AsianSIL Regional Conference – Nepal 2022

29th July 2022 @ 8:00 am - 30th July 2022 @ 5:30 pm

Small and less powerful countries, like Nepal, have hope for survival and to develop, exist with dignity and true independence due to the role international law plays in defining the behaviors of other (more powerful) countries, including neighboring countries. However, at times, such less powerful countries become victims of international law through unequal treaties among their neighbors and other Asian member countries. While Asia has claimed its important role in the development of international law and such has been recognized by international community and scholars around the world, it suffers from being a thriving home for gross violations of human rights, corruption, disrespect to sovereignty, unilateral decisions of one country by ignoring international legal norms, and lists go on. In such an anomalist context, a question that whether the claim of Asia’s important role in the development of international law is sustainable is not irrelevant. This regional conference will consider the anomalies of Asian practices of international law where possible.
