International Intellectual Property Law and Policy
The Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) Interest Group on International Intellectual Property Law and Policy (IPLP-IG), established in 2025, provides a platform for scholarly exchange and collaborative research on international intellectual property law, broadly understood to include digital technologies, innovation, and artificial intelligence. With a particular interest in Asian approaches to IP law (though not exclusively), the Group aspires to be a vibrant forum connecting scholars and practitioners and strengthening Asian contributions to international IP debate.
The IPLP-IG adopts a broad understanding of ‘international IP’, recognising the diverse actors and stakeholders who shape IP law in theory and practice. This inclusive approach encourages interdisciplinary engagement, collaboration, and synergies between research projects across the AsianSIL network and the wider international community.
The Group also seeks to facilitate discussion on contemporary challenges in IP governance, including the public-interest balance, industrial policy, and the evolving regulation of technology. It intends to host workshops, research collaborations, and knowledge-exchange activities that reflect diverse Asian perspectives and contribute meaningfully to global IP discourse. The IPLP-IG is also grounded in a shared commitment to advancing a public-interest-oriented and equitable IP system.
The convenor of this interest group is Dr Pratyush Nath Upreti.
